It depends on your child’s specific needs, but Dr. Jones and Dr. Hanson may recommend one or multiple of the following appliances:

  • Fixed or Removable Retainers: Following an orthodontic treatment, wearing a retainer is crucial to keeping the recently shifted teeth in their new positions. Without them, they can actually begin to drift back to where they were previously.
  • Palatal Expanders: The roof of a child’s mouth, a.k.a. the hard palate, can be so narrow that it prevents the upper teeth from coming in correctly. This can trigger crowding, resulting in higher costs later. With the help of an expander, Dr. Jones and Dr. Hanson can gradually widen the palate and create more room for teeth as well as a broader, more aesthetically-pleasing smile.
  • Thumb Crib: Does your child struggle to stop thumb-sucking? This small appliance can help them break the habit more easily. When worn, it prevents them from putting their thumb in their mouth.

Keep in mind this is not an exhaustive list of the oral appliances we use. Dr. Jones and Dr. Hanson can explain more and break down your options when you see them in person!
